Blackbook EP

by Fair 1

/
  • Record/Vinyl + Digital Album

Introducing the first EP by underground emcee Fair 1 titled "Blackbook". After a long hiatus, “Blackbook” is Fair 1's followup record to the Fame 12" single that featured El da Sensei on a classic graffiti-themed track. “Blackbook” collects six tracks, breaks, and an instrumental of the lead single “C.O.C.A”.

"C.O.C.A" (Come One, Come All) features the legendary Sadat X of Brand Nubian and standout Canadian rapper Anonymous Twist. The artists trade verses on a boombap production and cuts by the Netherlands beatsmith Soulitaire. The theme of the track is teaching, learning, and passing on "collected wisdom" as each artist brings their unique point of view and experience to the verses.

Also on the A-side, "Grown Up" is a storytelling track over spacey soul-inspired beat production by Japanese producer Shu. The track takes on two first-person perspectives of a couple whose goals of music and family pull them apart told in 8 bar segments.

With roots as a graffiti writer, Fair 1 teams up with El Da Sensei of the Artifacts on a graffiti-themed anthem titled “Fame”. The song is in the spirit of “Wrong Side of the Tracks” and KRS One’s “Out for Fame”.
